Something old for something new

Need a wardrobe refresher? The team at Starfish, purveyors of clothing made to last,
is offering customers a 50 per cent discount on the 2012 winter collection in return for a trade in of past season Laurie Foon and Starfish garments.

Coined the Great Starfish Exchange, the concept follows the company’s ethos of creating beautiful garments that have a minimal impact on the environment, by reselling
selected trade in pieces on their in-store vintage racks and donating the rest to Dress for Success Wellington – a not-for-profit organisation helping disadvantaged women find jobs and remain employed.

Founder and designer Laurie Foon says the initiative is a further effort to take responsibility for production and combat the concept of throw away fashion.

“The fact that we are prepared to re-own and recycle our garments shows our commitment to producing products that live on and challenges the concept of throw away fashion.

“Whether we call it up-cycling, re-using or re-loving, it comes down to the same thing. Our clothing is designed to last and we want to prove it.”
